Tainui Wheels Day

On Wednesday the 19th of May, Tainui held Wheels Day to fundraise for their school camp in term 4. People brought skateboards, bikes, remote control cars, unicycles, roller blades and scooters. All the students really enjoyed the fun filled lunchtime and if they wanted to participate all they needed to do was bring a gold coin donation. It was held in the school dome at lunch time. Tainui has been doing great fundraising activities and we hope our team, Aotea, can raise LOTS of money for camp as well.

Narrative Writing

In room 8 we are studying Narratives and using the three tenses. The tenses are past, present and future. We are also using the five senses, which are taste, hear, sight, touch and smell. We have been learning how to use adjectives, adverbs and synonyms, which are descriptive words. Posted below in the comments section are some of Room 8’s work. We hope you enjoy reading them.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day was celebrated today at MIS with a special assembly to remember those who faught for us in the wars, and who are fighting for us today. We had 4 special guests from the RSA, including Bill McCabe, a crowd favourite, who spoke to the students and staff about his memories, and shared some interesting and funny stories with us all. As a class, it made us think about the sacrifices others made to allow us to have a peaceful country to live in, which we are truely grateful for. Below are some of Room 8 student's views and ideas on ANZAC Day and what it means to them.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Homework Week 9/4 - Cut Them or Grow Them

Every year thousands and thousands of trees are cut down in NZ to provide local businesses with timber for furniture, buildings and housing, as well as exporting the timber all over the world.

Driving to places like Taupo and Rotorua, have roads where the hills are covered in left over logs which were unwanted by the foresters, and hills with new beginnings of trees, planted to replace those which have been cut and too, will be cut in the future.

Should we be cutting down so many trees in NZ? What is your opinion?

Homework Week 9/3 - Cat or Dog

They are the age old pets which everyone loves and can be found in almost every home throughout NZ. They are fluffy and cute, cuddly and friendly, and are a ball of fun for all ages. They are your favourite pets, the cat and dog.

Which would you prefer to have as your ideal pet? Explain why you think a cat would make a better pet than a cat or vice versa. Can you convince me to trade in my cats for a dog? (Maybe I will have to have both! )
